Privacy Policy

The short version:📱Your dues and financial data are stored locally on your device. We never see them.
🤖Optional AI features send text to Google Gemini. You control this with your own API key.
📊Anonymous crash reports and usage counts are sent to Sentry and PostHog to help us fix bugs. No financial data. You can turn this off in Settings.

⚠️ Important: AI features send data to Google

DueGenie offers optional AI-powered features — Smart Fill (fill a due form from plain text) and AI Insights (financial health summary). These features are off by default and require you to provide your own Google Gemini API key before they can be used.

When you use Smart Fill or AI Insights, the text you type and your due titles are transmitted to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. This transmission goes directly from your device to Google — it does not pass through any DueGenie server. Your data is processed under Google's Privacy Policy and the Gemini API Terms of Service.

Your Gemini API key is stored in your device's secure enclave (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore) via expo-secure-store. It is never stored on our servers or transmitted to anyone other than Google.

If you do not add a Gemini API key, no AI features are active and no data ever leaves your device for AI processing.

1. Who we are

DueGenie is developed and published by BotleApps. We can be reached at duegenieadmin@gmail.com.

2. Data stored on your device

DueGenie stores the following data locally on your device using AsyncStorage and expo-secure-store. This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 4 (AI features).

Your dues — titles, amounts, categories, due dates, recurrence, completion status
Custom categories — labels and colours you create
App preferences — theme, dark mode, default reminder time
Onboarding state — whether you have completed setup
Google Sign-In profile (name, email, photo URL) — stored locally, used only to display your profile in the app. We never transmit this to any server.
Gemini API key — stored in the secure enclave; never transmitted except to Google's Gemini API when you actively use an AI feature
Add-due draft — an in-progress form saved temporarily (auto-expires after 7 days)

3. Data we do not collect

We do not collect, store, or process:

Your dues, amounts, or financial data
Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable information
Device identifiers or advertising IDs
Location data

4. Diagnostics and analytics

DueGenie sends anonymous diagnostic data to two third-party services to help us find and fix bugs. This is enabled by default and can be turned off at any time in Settings → Data & Privacy → Anonymous diagnostics.

What is sent:

Crash reports — stack trace, app version, device model, OS version (via Sentry)
Usage events — anonymised feature interactions such as "due added", "onboarding completed", "feedback submitted" (via PostHog)
An anonymous, device-scoped identifier (iOS vendor ID or Android ID) — not your Google account, email, or name

What is never sent:

Due titles, amounts, descriptions, or notes
Your name, email address, or Google profile information
Any financial data
Google idTokens, API keys, or any credentials

Sentry — crash reporting. Data processed under Sentry's Privacy Policy. Sentry is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt region) for this project.

PostHog — product analytics. Data processed under PostHog's Privacy Policy. Hosted in the US.

5. AI features and data transmission to Google

This section restates the AI disclosure above in full for legal clarity.

The AI features (Smart Fill and AI Insights) are optional and disabled by default. To use them you must enter a Google Gemini API key in Settings. When an AI feature is invoked:

The text you have typed (Smart Fill) or a summary of your current dues (AI Insights) is sent from your device directly to the Google Gemini API.
The request is authenticated with your own API key.
No DueGenie server is involved in the request or response.
Google processes your data according to its own privacy policy and Gemini API Terms of Service. We have no control over and no visibility into Google's processing.

You can remove your API key at any time in Settings → AI & Gemini, which immediately disables all AI features and stops any further data transmission to Google.

5. Google Sign-In

DueGenie uses Google Sign-In to create a named profile within the app. Sign-in is used to retrieve your display name, email address, and profile photo from Google. This information is stored only on your device. We never transmit it to our servers. Google's handling of the Sign-In flow is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Notifications

DueGenie schedules local notifications through your device's operating system (iOS or Android). No notification content is sent to any external server. Notification scheduling uses expo-notifications and operates entirely on-device.

7. Calendar access

DueGenie can optionally add due dates to your device calendar. This feature requires the Calendar permission and writes events only to calendars on your device. We do not read calendar data and do not transmit any calendar information to external servers.

8. Data export

You can export all your dues as a CSV file at any time from Settings → Export. The export is generated on-device. You decide where to send it; DueGenie does not transmit the export to any server.

9. Data deletion

You can delete all your data at any time from Settings → Danger Zone → Delete All Data. This permanently removes all dues, categories, preferences, and your profile from the device. There is no account to delete because we hold no data about you.

10. Children's privacy

DueGenie is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes — particularly any that affect data transmission — we will display a notice within the app on next launch.
